Fabio Rinaldi opens the Treviso Marathon golden register. The Piedmontese, Renato Canova’s pupil, has ended the race in 2h11’48’’, catching and passing the Kenyan Philemon Kipkering (2h12’49’’). Fabio Rinaldo, who before Treviso Marathon wanted to end his runner career, has also set his new personal record (31’’ improvement). Third the Sicilian Vincenzo Modica, former world vicechampion, who has finished the race in 2h13’02’’.
Hafida Izem, a Morrocan living in Matera, has solitary run since the first kilometers, ending the race in 2h37’58’’. Second the Italian record-holder Maura Viceconte (2h40’29’’), nearly at the end of her career.
Along the course there was a large number of public: “It seemed to had been in New York”, says Emanuela Zucchi, one of the greatest Italian marathon runners.
Cheers have exalted the disabled athlete Francesca Porcellato, who has ended the Treviso marathon with a personal record (1h44’29’’). With 2.662 athletes arrived at the finishing line, the Treviso Marathon is, already in the first edition, the 6th Italian marathon.

From Fabio Rinaldi to Denis Curzi: the winner of Treviso Marathon are always Italian. Denis Curzi, already placed 4th the former year, wins the 2nd Treviso Marathon, obtaining his first important victory and improving his record of 51’’. Silver to the Ethiopian Abebe Tsegaye Halefom, who was passed by Curzi at the 38th kilometre, after the entry in Treviso municipality. In the female race golden and silver to two Ethiopian athletes: first Zinash Alemu (2h40’53’’), second Hirut Areba (2h40’59’’). Bronze to the forty-two Italian Rosanna Munerotto (2h44’30’’).For Treviso Marathon is another organizational success. Ansa, the most authoritative Italian press agency, says that 200.000 persons have watched the marathon runners’ transit in a sunny day.

For the first time, Treviso Marathon has more than 4.000 registrations. The weather is not so good: rain and sleet. Nevertheless the marathon goes on. Treviso Marathon achieves notoriety outside the runners: the actor Walter Nudo takes part engaged with a charity organization. The two winners, the Morrocan Rachid Kisri (2h10’34’’) and Deborah Toniolo (2h28’31’’), have a world top performance. Ten men run in less than 2h20’ (the best italian athlete is Denis Curzi, placed 4th at the finishing line with 2h11’17’’) and 13 women arrive at the finishing line with less than three hours. The first placed female athlete is Deborah Toniolo (2h28’31’’) and the second Giovanna Volpato (2h28’59’’). Five months later these two Venetian athletes will win the European Cup.
The athletes arriving at the finishing line of the 3rd Treviso Marathon are 3.408, 20% more than the year before.

The Kenyan Benjamin Lokedikori Pseret and the Ethiopian Shitaye Gemechu are the winners of the two categories. Pseret, 27 years old running with Co-ver Mapei, wins in 2h10’18’’; second David Maiyo (2h10’19’’) and third Philip Biwott Kiplagat (2h10’27’’), both Kenyan. Pseter improves of 16’’ on the Treviso Marathon record. The best Italian athlete is Antonello Petrei, arriving sixth at the finishing line in 2h15’20’’. The female race is dominated by the Ethiopian Gemechu, who with 2h28’03’’ improves on the Treviso Marathon female record, previously realized by the Italian Deborah Toniolo in 2006 edition (2h28’34’’).
